Israeli start-up Redefine Meat has developed a 3D printer that produces whole pieces of meat from plant-based ingredients. The company has been working on this technology since 2018 and has now produced a market-ready product, a filet steak that is juicy, has a bite and tastes like meat. The meat is barely distinguishable from a real steak, according to Eshchar Ben-Shitrit, the founder of Redefine Meat. The company has partnered with Giraudi, one of the largest importers of beef, to expand its market in Europe. Currently, 110 restaurants in Germany, including the Michelin-starred restaurant Golvet, are being supplied with Redefine Meat’s products.

Redefine Meat uses plant-based fibers, fats, and a liquid that resembles animal blood to create its products. These ingredients are then layered together using a self-developed 3D printer to create a steak or other meat products. The company has built a factory in the Netherlands to increase production, with the capacity to produce up to 500 tons of meat per month. In addition to steak, Redefine Meat also offers pulled pork, sausages, ground meat, and burger patties.

The company’s products are already being supplied to 110 restaurants in Germany, and hundreds more are expected to offer Redefine Meat’s products in the fourth quarter of 2022. The company’s technology offers a sustainable alternative to traditional meat production, which is resource-intensive and has a significant environmental impact. Redefine Meat’s products are also healthier, as they contain no cholesterol or antibiotics. The company’s innovative approach to meat production is likely to appeal to consumers who are concerned about the environmental impact of their food choices and are looking for healthier alternatives to traditional meat products.
