Boom Technology, a company founded in 2004, is working on a new supersonic aircraft that could travel from London to New York in just 3.5 hours. The new aircraft, called Overture, is being developed as a successor to the Concorde, which was retired in 2003. While the Concorde was known for its speed, it was also extremely loud and environmentally damaging. Boom Technology is working to make the new aircraft quieter and more fuel-efficient. The company aims to reduce the aircraft’s carbon emissions to the level of an average passenger plane.

Overture will have a top speed of around 2,300 km/h and will be able to carry 55 passengers in luxury. The company plans to make the aircraft more environmentally friendly by improving its aerodynamics and using low-emission engines. The goal is to reduce the fuel consumption per seat by at least 30% compared to the Concorde. This would also lower the ticket price, which is expected to be around $5,000 for a flight from London to New York, similar to a business-class ticket. However, it is still unclear how the company plans to reduce the noise generated by the aircraft’s supersonic boom, which is currently prohibited over US soil.

Despite these challenges, Boom Technology has already attracted major investors such as Airbnb, Dropbox, and Google. Five major airlines have also expressed interest in the new aircraft, with 30 planes already pre-ordered at a cost of around $200 million each. While there are still many questions to be answered, the development of Overture represents a significant step forward in the field of supersonic aviation.
