In the name of science, around 15,000 men have had their penises measured, resulting in researchers now having a representative value for the average penis length. The team, led by David Veale from the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, combined data from various smaller studies to calculate the average length of a penis in both flaccid and erect states. The results showed an average flaccid length of 9.16 centimeters and an average erect length of 13.12 centimeters. The study, titled “Am I normal?”, aims to provide a realistic understanding of penis size for men who may be insecure about their own.

Veale explains that many men have an inaccurate perception of their penis size, possibly due to comparing themselves to pornographic actors who are often outliers. The study found that only five out of 100 men exceeded the 16-centimeter mark. It is important to note that the measurement protocol used in the study involves measuring from the pubic bone to the tip of the penis, excluding any foreskin and flattening any fat pads in the pubic area. The circumference is measured at the base of the penis.

The study did not find any other anatomical features that could reliably indicate penis size, such as foot or finger length. While the data was collected from various regions around the world, the study does not make any statements about the size differences between different ethnicities. The hope is that this study will provide a more accurate understanding of penis size for men who may be insecure about their own, and help to dispel any myths or misconceptions.
