A recent study conducted by Appinio GmbH has revealed the most popular career aspirations among children and teenagers in Germany. Despite the rise of new professions such as influencers, food bloggers, and mobile developers, the results showed that children still dream of becoming pilots, police officers, and veterinarians. The study surveyed 1,859 young people aged between 14 and 30 years old, who were asked about their childhood career aspirations. Interestingly, the results showed that children still adhere to traditional gender roles, and their career aspirations have remained relatively unchanged over generations.

The study found that the most popular childhood career aspirations were to become a police officer or a veterinarian, with 12% of respondents choosing each profession. Other popular career aspirations included becoming a pilot, doctor, teacher, firefighter, astronaut, football player, or actress. When the results were analyzed by gender, it was clear that girls preferred careers that involved helping others, while boys were more drawn to careers that involved risk and adventure. For example, 22% of female respondents wanted to become veterinarians, while 19% of male respondents wanted to become police officers.

Interestingly, the study also found that career aspirations remained relatively consistent across different age groups. While the percentage of respondents who aspired to certain professions may have varied, the top 10 career aspirations remained largely the same. This suggests that childhood dreams can indeed come true, as many adults have gone on to pursue careers in the fields they dreamed of as children. Overall, the study provides valuable insights into the career aspirations of children and teenagers in Germany, highlighting the enduring appeal of traditional professions and the importance of gender roles in shaping career aspirations.
