A new probiotic has been developed that claims to prevent the onset of alcohol-induced headaches, commonly known as hangovers. The probiotic, created by startup ZBiotics, contains a genetically modified version of the Bacillus subtilis bacteria that is said to break down acetaldehyde in the body, a byproduct of alcohol metabolism that is believed to be a major cause of hangover headaches. However, the effectiveness of the probiotic has not been scientifically proven, and the company has not been able to finance a clinical trial to confirm its claims.

Hangovers are a common side effect of excessive alcohol consumption, and while there are many home remedies that are believed to alleviate the symptoms, such as salty foods and vitamin C, there is little scientific evidence to support their effectiveness. ZBiotics claims that its probiotic can prevent hangovers if taken before drinking alcohol, but the company has not been able to provide scientific proof of its claims due to financial constraints.

Despite this, the probiotic is already being sold in the US for around eleven euros per bottle. While the safety of the product has been confirmed through experiments, it has not yet undergone the peer-review process, which is a quality assurance measure used by reputable scientific journals.
