Nissan has unveiled a new technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas that measures the brain waves of drivers. The Brain to Vehicle Technology (B2V) system aims to reduce the driver’s reaction time by up to 500 milliseconds. By reading the driver’s thoughts, the car can predict their behavior before they take action, allowing it to respond to potential hazards more quickly than current driver assistance systems.

The B2V system is a significant departure from the traditional “driver controls, car follows” approach. Instead, Nissan has developed a solution that measures the driver’s brain waves during the journey and transmits them to the car. The human brain is still far more powerful than any computer, and by harnessing this organic processing power, the car can anticipate the driver’s actions and respond accordingly.

According to Nissan, the B2V system can reduce the driver’s reaction time by up to 500 milliseconds, which may not sound like much, but it can make all the difference in a dangerous situation. The technology is designed to help drivers respond more quickly to potential hazards, without them even realizing that the car is intervening. However, it is unclear whether Nissan intends to release the B2V system as an alternative to autonomous vehicles or as a stepping stone towards fully autonomous driving.
