Australians have discovered a rainforest fruit that kills 75% of tumors in animal trials within minutes. The Fontainea picrosperma, also known as Fountains Blushwood, is a favorite of native animals in Northern Australia, but they all spit out the seeds. Researchers at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane discovered that the seeds contain a natural compound that kills cancer. They developed the EBC-46 drug and conducted an eight-year study on 300 cancer-stricken animals, including cats, dogs, mice, and horses. After injecting the animals with the drug, three-quarters of the tumors disappeared and have not returned.
The drug is limited to cancers such as breast, colon, prostate, and skin cancers, as well as tumors in the head and neck area, as it must be injected. Cancers that have already metastasized are not treatable. The drug kills tumor cells, cuts off blood supply to the tumor, and helps activate the immune system. The researchers are fascinated by how quickly the drug kills cancer, with visible changes occurring within five minutes. Traditional cancer treatments usually take several weeks to show results. Clinical trials on humans have been approved, and the drug will be tested on ten to thirty volunteers.
The researchers are optimistic that the drug can be an additional treatment method for those who have not responded to other therapies or for older people who are too weak for further chemotherapy. The QBiotics Group holds the patent for the drug Tigilanoltiglat and is currently researching other ways to cure cancer. The discovery of the Fountains Blushwood’s natural compound is a promising development in cancer research, and scientists are also investigating the Blushwood Tree to determine where it grows and if it can be commercially cultivated.
