The negative impact of smartphones on relationships has been highlighted in a recent study by ElitePartner. The study shows that excessive use of mobile devices can lead to a lack of communication, arguments, and even a decline in sexual activity. Only 15% of respondents reported a positive effect from using their smartphones, with the majority experiencing negative effects. More than a quarter of couples (27%) reported that they talk less due to smartphone use, and 12% even check their phones during meals. The study also revealed that 10% of relationships experience arguments due to excessive smartphone use, and 8% reported a negative impact on their sex life.

The study also found that most couples know each other’s phone PINs, with two-thirds of couples willingly sharing their PINs with their partners. However, the study also revealed that 20% of respondents admitted to secretly reading their partner’s messages, with women being more likely to do so. Younger couples were found to be more likely to snoop on their partners, with 37% of couples under 30 admitting to reading their partner’s messages. Some partners even go as far as installing spy apps on their partner’s phone, which is not only morally wrong but also legally questionable.

The study also highlighted the difficulty of letting go of ex-partners in the age of social media. Many respondents admitted to following their ex-partners on social media and taking an inactive part in their lives. This behavior can lead to arguments and even the breakdown of current relationships. The study recommends that couples have a conversation about their social media use and how to protect each other’s privacy within the relationship.
