The BH03 tire uses both piezoelectric and thermoelectric effects to generate additional electricity for the car. The piezoelectric effect generates electricity through pressure, which is only active when the electric car is in motion. Meanwhile, the thermoelectric effect generates electricity even when the car is stationary. The tire’s ultra-black texture is designed to heat up quickly, generating more electricity in sunny conditions and through friction on the road. Jean-Pierre Jeusette of Goodyear Tire & Rubber said that the company developed the tire as part of its commitment to energy and environmental issues. Goodyear has not disclosed the tire’s electricity production, but emphasizes that it is a concept tire that demonstrates the possibilities for future technology.
