Over 500 UFO sightings have been reported to authorities in the United States, with some possessing “unusual characteristics” that require further investigation. According to the publicly available portion of the Annual Report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, the US government has received more than 500 reports of UFO sightings, with over 360 of them coming in between March 2021 and August 2022. While most of the newly reported sightings are classified as “not noteworthy,” some have exhibited “unusual flight characteristics or capabilities” that require additional resources from the US Congress for analysis.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) notes that the number of UFO sightings in the US has significantly increased in recent years, citing a “better understanding” of potential dangers and a decrease in stigma for those who claim to have seen a UFO. In response to the high number of sightings, the United States Department of Defense has established the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, a department that aims to improve coordination in investigations. Additionally, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced an independent UFO study that will examine the numerous sightings using scientific methods, with the results of the study being made publicly available.

While most of the reported sightings are not considered noteworthy, the fact that some possess “unusual characteristics” has piqued the interest of authorities. As such, the US government is taking steps to investigate these sightings further, with the establishment of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office and the independent UFO study by NASA. As more information becomes available, it will be interesting to see what conclusions are drawn from these investigations and what impact they may have on our understanding of the universe.
